THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 196 IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN TEXAS THIS WATCH INCLUDES 6 COUNTIES IN WESTERN TEXAS BORDEN GLASSCOCK HOWARD MITCHELL REAGAN SCURRY THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF BIG LAKE, BIG SPRING, COLORADO CITY, GAIL, GARDEN CITY, AND SNYDER.

Description

At 408 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Hazard: Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

Impact: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Snyder, Colorado City, Loraine, Colorado City Airport, Lake Colorado City, Lake Colorado City State Park, Inadale, Westbrook, Cuthbert, Buford, Ira, Dunn, Winston Field, Vincent and Hermleigh.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
