RED FLAG WARNING TODAY FOR WESTERN AND MUCH OF CENTRAL NORTH DAKOTA,
And Red Flag Warning For All Of Western And Central North Dakota Thursday Through Friday: .A Red Flag Warning has been issued today for western and much of central North Dakota. Critical fire weather conditions will return today due to southeasterly winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Minimum relative humidity is forecast to drop down as low as 15 percent. Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control. Stronger winds and continued low relative humidity are then expected for Thursday and Friday across all of western through central North Dakota, including the James River Valley. Therefore, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued Thursday through Friday as well. The National Weather Service in Bismarck has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from 10 AM Thursday to 9 PM CDT Friday.
Winds: West 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
Relative Humidity: As low as 18 percent.
Affected Area: Much of central North Dakota, including the James River Valley.
Impacts: Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control or suppress.
Affected Area: All of western and central North Dakota.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Additional Details: Southeasterly winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph before the cold front rolls through. Then switching to westerly winds.
